Six-figure earners now slammed by Australia’s savage rental crisis, report reveals

The great Australian rental squeeze has turned savage, with new figures showing even six-figure earners are being slammed by housing stress – and it is costing some Aussies the equivalent of their entire annual leave entitlement. The Everybody’s Home’s 2026 Priced Out report analysed rental affordability for Australians earning between $40,000 and $130,000 per year across capital cities and regional areas, and paints a grim picture of a rental market that is no longer just punishing people on the lowest incomes. The report comes after the Federal Government announced sweeping changes to negative gearing and CGT tax incentives for investors during the May 12 Budget, a controversial move that was predicted to add just $2 a week to rents.
