When the Makin family moved into a hectare home in rural Howard Springs, they knew they were going to renovate it – but did not think it would turn into a seven year labour of love. Owner Megan Makin said she and her husband found the five-bedroom property at 365 Bronzewing Ave in 2019, seeking a “renovator’s delight” they could turn into something special. “I’m an interior designer and my husband’s a builder, so we wanted a project we could really transform,” the mother of three said. “It was gruelling. We both worked during the renovation … it took weekends, nights. It took a lot of years, and a lot of it was over the last 12 months.” The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 365 Bronzewing Ave, Howard Springs, is a full hectare of newly renovated rural living, and a passion project for the owners. The Makin family, builders and designers behind Darwin’s The Makin Project, worked for seven years to turn the outdated home into a modern family retreat.
