European barn-style Mount Martha home hits market for $3.6m

This home completed in 2024 offers coastal living or holidaying at its finest, with bay views and within walking distance of Mount Martha village and beaches. When the vendor Bruce Charlton first saw the 879sq m property at 7 Ailsa St, it was the enviable location that caught his eye; however, the home’s character also left an impression. “The (original) 1905-built house was set across two blocks facing two different streets and was a lovely lemon yellow colour with many extensions to it over the years, as many Australian homes have as the family grows larger over generations,” he explained. Unfortunately, due to termites and rot, the home couldn’t be saved, at least not in full. “We decided to save some large bluestone flooring slabs, the original house signs and the original telephone to incorporate in the new house to be built in a nod to its history.
