This renovated 1873 home at 11 Aphrasia St, Newtown, is on the market for $3.9m to $4.2m.
A suite of stately heritage mansions for sale across Geelong offer the ultimate prize for buyers seeking a trophy home with a rich history.
Decades can often pass between these landmark properties changing hands, but several graced the market in 2025.
St Albans Stud, a grand historic home linked to 10 Melbourne Cup winners, and Newtown jewel Raith are among rare beauties still seeking new custodians.

McGrath, Geelong agent David Cortous said Newtown’s most expensive residential home, the renovated Victorian-era estate Raith, was currently under negotiation.
He said the emergence of a serious buyer coincided with renewed interest in other grand Geelong residences after a slower 12 months.
“These properties are obviously few and far between,” Mr Cortous said.
“Raith sits on 6000sq m of land, firstly, where do you find that type of land in Newtown before you even put anything on top of it? And then you’ve got a 120sq m home that been thoughtfully renovated with an 20m indoor pool.
“It’s quite a stately property but obviously the higher up you go the buyers start to a bit thin. Geelong is starting to see some action in that high-end top tier range, which is good to see.”
2a Raith Tce, Newtown, is on the market for $7.5m-$8.25m.
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom house has been renovated from top to bottom.
The grounds includes an indoor swimming pool.
He pointed to the recent sale of four-bedroom mansion Newtown Brae, at 15 Stephen St, Newtown, as the first of the current crop to trade.
The circa 1851 house, extended in 1885 by architect Alexander Hamilton, sold in November for an undisclosed price, but was originally listed for upwards of $6.5m.
It’s the first time the 3400sq m property has changed hands in 25 years.
Kay & Burton listing agent Peter Kudelka said it was poised to once again become a family home after attracting out-of-town buyers.
“There wasn’t huge numbers through, given the nature of the property, being National Trust and those sorts of things, that’s why it took a little bit longer,” Mr Kudelka said.
Posts from an old tennis court can be found in back garden of Newtown Brae.
St Albans Stud, at 6-30 Homestead Drive, St Albans Park, is considered one of the Geelong’s finest heritage homes.
Buyers from outside the Geelong area are also driving inquiry for St Albans Stud, which was originally built for prominent trainer James Wilson in 1873.
The original farm has been sliced up for suburban houses in St Albans Park, but the homestead and stables complex where trainer Harry Telford hid Phar Lap from gangs out to nobble him before taking out the 1930 Melbourne Cup is today owned by Geelong businessman Dean Montgomery.
Whitford, Newtown agent Peter Fort is working to find a new owner for the 3.4ha property, which includes the 30-room mansion and historic stables that have buyers pondering conversion opportunities.
“It’s one of those properties where there’s a lot to take in,” Mr Fort said.
“We’re now quoting $6m to $6.6m. We see it still shows value at that level just due to the land size alone. It is unique, and being unique requires a unique buyer, so it’s just time.”
11 Aphrasia St, Newtown, occupies a 1020sq m block set behind electric gates.
A recent renovation pays homage to the home’s Victorian heritage.
A relative newcomer to market is ‘Kelvin’, a grand two-storey period home, recently listed for sale after a five-year restoration.
Jellis Craig Geelong agent Marcus Falconer expects the 1000sq m property at 11 Aphrasia St, Newtown, to fetch $3.9m to $4.2m.
Vendor Ian Critchley has overseen a sympathetic renovation and extension to the original 1873 house.
A new open-plan rear living space now connects to English-style landscaped gardens.
“Structurally, we have restored it as well so it will last for another 150 years,” Mr Critchley said.
