A first-home buyer paid a staggering $3.377m for a suburban Brisbane house, beating 18 other bidders vying for the lowset property which sold for close to $500,000 above its reserve price.
The buyer, aged in his 20s, stunned an auction crowd of close to 200 people as he made his final winning offer of just shy of the suburb record price for the five-bedroom house at 6 Turnberry Pl, Carindale.
The home on a 1,103 sqm lot backing onto parkland went to auction following a five-week campaign, with 191 groups inspecting the property.
Bidding opened at $2.3m and advanced rapidly with multiple parties active.

At $3,025,000 the property was called on the market, confirming a sale and intensifying the contest. Mr Torres said the sellers’ reserve price had earlier been set at $2.9m.
Selling agents Will Torres and Damian Cochrane, of Torres Property, said the result underscored demand for quality family homes and signalled a shifting buyer profile at the upper end of Brisbane’s eastern suburbs.
Mr Cochrane said the buyer “appeared strikingly youthful among the crowd”.
“[He] looked incredibly young to be competing at this level,” Mr Cochrane said.
“To secure a $3.377m home as your first purchase in your 20s speaks to a new wave of confident, decisive buyers in Brisbane’s suburban market.”

Mr Torres said the young buyer “remained composed against experienced competition” and was accompanied by his father, who was understood to be contributing “generational wealth” towards the big-ticket purchase.
“He was a student who looked like he was 19 years of age, he was very much incognito with his sunglasses on and talking with his father in Mandarin then calling out the numbers,” Mr Torres said.
“He held his own as the bidding increments narrowed and the pressure sharpened.
“They had been looking on and off for a property that was flat and large and all on one level but had only seen this house that day.”

Mr Torres said the sellers felt like “they had just won the lottery” and were downsizing to a city apartment, having paid off the mortgage on their home of nearly 15 years.
The brick residence was built in 1995 and had been renovated about a decade ago, with features including a marble kitchen, pool and outdoor entertaining area, as well as a dedicated study and three-car garage.
The sale price was far higher than the Carindale median house price of $1.775m, and close to the suburb residential record of $3.8m set in 2023.
Elsewhere, Ray White’s top weekend result was 86 Keona Rd, McDowall, which sold for$4.35m to a developer after an emotional auction with 13 registered bidders and 70 people in attendance.

Place Estate Agents’ The Day also delivered strong outcomes, led by Sunnybank Hills where 99 Lynelle St drew around 15 registered bidders and 43 bids, selling for $2.901m after a rapid duel between a local owner‑occupier and an investor.
Nearby, 8 Pearfrost St sold for $2.188m following extended negotiations and about 15 bids from six registered bidders.
Long‑held homes drew deep competition, including 16 Lechmere St, New Farm ($3.043m) and 10/24‑26 Rossiter Pde, Hamilton ($1.045m).
Place auctioneer Mark Frater said fewer listings and equity‑backed upgraders drove serious competition across established family suburbs.
