An Aussie waterskiing icon has listed his stunning Gold Coast mansion for sale, complete with wide water frontage, mega yacht access and a pontoon.

The epic estate at 15 Westminster Court, Sovereign Islands, is owned by champion waterskiier Glenn Thurlow, who was notably the first man to jump over 200ft.

He was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1999 after setting a record leap of 61.57m (or 202ft) in March 1983.

“An outstanding achievement for that time, he jumped with wooden skis and used wooden ramps, and the distance was not beaten for another six years, only when the skis and ramps were made of fibreglass,” the citation says.

“Not that Glenn has only that achievement to his credit. He represented Australia in the World Championships eight times, from 1973 to 1987.

“During that period he won four silver and two bronze medals in the jumping event.

“He dominated the jumping event in Australia from 1977 to 1988, winning the gold in each of those twelve consecutive years and was the first Australian man to win all three competitive events in a single year in 1981.”

Glenn retired from competition in 1989, but continued to promote the sport through his involvement with the Australian Water Ski Association, as coaching director at junior and senior levels and was the Australian national team captain and coach from 1987 to 1989.

He was inducted into the International Water Ski Federation Hall of Fame in 2003 and purchased the Sovereign Islands mansion in November 2021 for $5.8 million aftre moving up from their cattle farm in Albury-Wodonga.

It is now listed for sale with Coastal agent Edin Kara, with expressions of interest closing on April 24.

Positioned on a 730sq m point position block with 31m of waterfrontage, it sits within the protected 6 knot Broadwater zone which boasts bridge-free boating and an extendable pontoon for a 110ft vessel.

The residence four levels, with the basement featuring the garage, cinema and wine cellar.

The first floor is home to the open plan living spaces including the chef’s kitchen with a walk-in pantry, a study, bedroom and covered patios.

The second floor hosts the bedrooms including the master suite, while the third level is home to the master suite retreat.

There are six bedrooms, six bathrooms and an eight car basement garage in total.

The residence is full of luxury features


Luxury features include deluxe Timothy Oulton chandeliers, a Surian Batu timber and wrought-iron staircase, Turkish limestone, marble and granite finishes, a 1000-bottle temperature-controlled wine cellar, a state-of-the-art soundproof theatre, Savant home automation, a fully-monitored security system, intercom, ducted airconditioning and window tinting.

Glenn said he and wife Lisa were now downsizing.

“I turn 70 in a few months and it is a large home and we kind of just want to free up some responsibilities,” he said.

“It is just the three of us now (their adult daughter lives at home) and we have a little dog and we like to spend a few months up at Palm Cove every year.

“We have bought a four-bedroom home just around the corner, still in Sanctuary Cove, but this one, this will be the nicest home we will ever have lived in.”

Glenn said that while he no longer gets on the waterskis, they had a “runabout” that they would take out on the water to enjoy their slice of paradise.

“You have these uninterrupted water views which is what brought us here in the first place,” he said, adding that the homes open Mediterranean-style was a favourite feature.
