Thousands of new homes could be introduced to the Sutherland Shire as part of a proposed 20-year plan to transform the area of Kurnell.
The recently announced proposal from the NSW Government aims to develop upon 210ha of beachfront land on Kurnell Peninsula, approximately 6km from the Cronulla CBD, by adding 4,300 new homes, as well as retail and tourism opportunities and public spaces.

Two-hundred-and-forty of the proposed 4,300 new residences would be affordable homes, with building heights planned to be between three and 12 storeys.
A total 7,000 sqm of retail and commercial space has also been proposed, as well as upgrades to Captain Cook Dr to improve traffic flow and emergency access to the peninsula.
The rezoning proposal aims to preserve over 50 per cent of the site for open space, which would include three district parks, nine local parks and sports fields.

Development of the area, under the proposal, would be delivered in a staged approach over a 20-year period.
Minister for planning and public spaces Paul Scully said the planned closure of the sand mine and remediation of the Kurnell Peninsula presented “an exciting opportunity” to transform the area.
The peninsula is currently home to about 2,000 people.
“This proposal envisions a vibrant new beachfront community with thousands of new homes, jobs and great open space in the Sutherland Shire,” he said.
“I encourage the community to have their say during the public exhibition period.”

Mr Scully said feedback from the community would play an important role in the assessment of the proposal.
Members of the community are able to submit their feedback on the proposal via the NSW Planning Portal before 5pm on Monday, May 11.
