Victoria’s largest builder is investing millions in a new Geelong headquarters on the back of strong sales across the region.

Construction will begin within the next two months on Sherridon Homes’ three-storey hub on the Melbourne Rd in Rippleside.

It’s part of a $10m regional Victorian expansion plan that also includes a new office in Shepparton and a commercial development in Warragul.

The brick Geelong building on the corner of Victoria St, designed by Projekt Evolve, is inspired by the city’s industrial architecture and will serve as a permanent base for employees and clients.

The company, part of Mirrastone, formerly known as AHB Group, will occupy the first and second floors with other ground floor retail spaces to be leased out.

Sherridon Homes regional managing director Natalie King said regional Victorian sales had surged in the past 12 months, with the Geelong region leading the comeback.

“Geelong is probably close to doubling in the past 12 months, it’s very, very strong,” Ms King said.

“We’ve seen a return of investors back into the marketplace, they were quite active pre-Covid then they slowed down but now they seem to be back with a vengeance and the budget announcements haven’t really dampened that, which is great.

“At the same time we are seeing lots of activity with first-home buyers and upgraders and there’s lots of government stuff going on.”

She said Sherridon Homes had outgrown its current rented office in Pakington St, Geelong West, where about 30 staff are currently based.

Mirrastone’s Geelong group will also move into the new premises, as well as the company’s Brilley Co. business, a relatively new arm specialising in disability housing, multi-generational homes and lifestyle villages.

Ms King said Sherridon Homes prided itself having local teams to assist clients, from administration to construction staff, suppliers and trades.

“With a number of new products launching and further geographic expansion planned, we’re continuing to invest in the markets where we see the strongest long-term demand,” she said.
