‘Pool is ridiculous’: Exclusive island home titled Australia’s most iconic listing

1 day ago 4

One of only two private homes on Hayman Island has been voted the most iconic property listing on realestate.com.au this month.

Beach dreams fuel Aussie hearts — those watery views, sounds of waves, cool breezes and soul-soothing dips make coastal pads the ultimate home and status symbol.

So when we asked viewers to pick the most iconic beach home in the latest realestate.com.au 'iconic listing' social media poll, we knew the bar would be sky high.

The winner was a Whitsundays knockout — an eight bathroom, six bedroom modernist architectural masterpiece that is one of only two private homes on Hayman Island.

With an asking price of around $25m, 1 Raintree Avenue, Whitsundays is a spectacular blend of concrete, glass and timber. It features serene minimalist interiors, a basalt infinity pool and expansive glass walls that enjoy views over the Coral Sea and nearby islands from almost every room.

Designed by internationally renowned architect Kerry Hill, the light and spacious tri-level home gives every bedroom an ensuite and balcony, and the master a study, walk-in robe and panoramic vistas. The large living area flows to a breezy alfresco terrace, while there are private guest quarters below.

The home is nestled within the InterContinental Hayman Island Resort, offering permanent-holiday perks like 24/7 butler service, private chefs and wellness pampering.

There are also Hayman's pristine beaches and Great Barrier Reef access to enjoy, but with little beyond the resort, there's not much in the way of shops, cafes, jobs or neighbours. Plus you need a boat or helicopter organised by the resort to reach the mainland.

But agent Nic Whitehead at WhiteFox Gold Coast says the island's isolation is not a turn off for high-net-worth individuals seeking a secluded retreat — it's an asset.

"They're looking for something that is extremely exclusive and private."

He said the property has garnered plenty of overseas interest during its five months on the market.

"It comfortably holds a large number of guests so is ideal for entertaining or functions, with private catering available from the resort.

"The pool is ridiculous, with such incredible views looking out over the ocean. It's like living on your own private island."

The runners-up boasted equally impressive coastal locales.

Perched above the rocks on the tip of Ben Buckler headland at North Bondi, 156 Brighton Boulevard's new tri-level dazzler offers six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a level lawn, pool and Bondi-to-horizon views from nearly every room — for an undisclosed price.

This property at 4 Childe Street is five minutes' drive from the heart of Byron Bay but feels a world away.

Surrounded by pristine Belongil Creek, Belongil Beach and untouched bushland, this 1,776sqm sanctuary is immersed in nature.

For $30m, the buyer scores a one two-bedroom residence plus a one-bedroom studio and plenty of entertaining space to take in those aspects — plus there's a built-in skate ramp.

For ultimate coastal seclusion, the three-bedroom Avalon Coastal Retreat at 11922 Tasman Highway stands proud on Rocky Hills headland in southeastern Tasmania.

Listed for over $4.8m, this modernist beachfront escape stuns with polished concrete floors and glass walls to take in the uninterrupted views across the Freycinet Peninsula — plus there's private access to De Gillern Beach below. What more could you possibly want in a coastal home?

This month viewers are voting on Australia's quirkiest homes, with the winner announced in late March.
