A man has created a unique “no hire fee” way to fix his lawn that has set the internet into a frenzy.

On a video posted to Facebook and Instagram, Tori Mouat, who is a digital creator based in Tauranga, New Zealand that posts DIY home renovation videos, has posted a “genius” lawn hack that online onlookers are praising.

In the video, Ms Mouat has footage posted a man spreading seed in his patchy lawn which she writes is a great way to get the “perfect spread, no hire fee.”

Instead of hiring a professional, the man has cut two holes in the bag of seed, sticking a leaf blower in one side and leaving a small hole on the other side to slowly release the seeds.

The woman captioned the video: “you don’t need a lawn seed spreader you need a blower.”

Commenters have fled to support the unique technique the man has shown.

“This is GENIUS!!! (sic),” one commented, throwing their support behind him.

“That’s actually top-tier. I’ll bank that,” another wrote.

“I really wanted to hate on this but can’t,” a third commented.

“But does it actually work?” one other commented.

It’s unclear if the technique worked from the video, yet it resurfaces a hotly debated contest around using seed or laying turf to fix patches or dying lawn.

Lawn enthusiasts are always searching for a new hack and the best way to take care of their backyard - and this video is no exception.

Those in the lawn community are divided on whether laying turf or seeding create the best grass.

Lawn hack that many are praising with a leaf blower, a bag of seeds and a dream.

Lawn Solutions Australia’s Nathan Edwards said that laying turf provides instant consistent coverage and predictable results when it comes to fixing up your lawn.

“It offers greater reliability, particularly in residential and high-traffic areas, as the grass is already mature and uniform at the time of installation,” Mr Edwards said.

“Unlike hydroseeding, turf delivers immediate visual appeal, significantly reduces weed invasion, and establishes far more quickly,” Mr Edwards said.

Others have decided to turn to hydromulching or seeding, which can be a more affordable option.

Ben O’Brien at Green Fingers Lawns said hydromulching can cost as little as $5 per square metre.

“It’s generally about a third of the price compared to laying turf,” he said.

The seeds are sprayed in a mulch mixture directly onto the soil, establishing it from seed to root in your backyard.

“The main thing with hydroseeing is you’re setting up that lawn from day one … when you hydroseed it sits directly in that soil.”
