‘Lose my house?’: Pensioner forced out by $39k roof bill

A US pensioner says she will be forced out of her home after being slapped with a hefty $US26,000 ($A39,000) emergency bill. Beverly Albright, who lives on a fixed income, is among nearly 200 residents at the Vilamoura at Rancho San Clemente complex in California. The 81-year-old is being forced to cough up for a massive $US5.2m ($A7.8m) roof replacement, the California Post reports. To make matters worse, homeowners say they have been given an ultimatum: pay the eye-watering sum upfront, split it into two massive hits, or enter a monthly payment plan that adds $US2000 ($A3000) a month onto their regular dues.
