Historic racing track once linked to Squizzy Taylor back on market

240 Racecourse Rd, Lancefield, has hit the market with a more than $3m asking price. The former Lancefield racing track owned by harness racing’s Petroff family is back on the market with a six-figure reduction in its price expectations. The 240 Racecourse Rd address was once frequented by day tripping picnickers from polite society, and underworld icons like Leslie “Squizzy” Taylor, before the 1600m long track was closed to the public in the 1930s. Taylor had a series of hit TV series Underbelly made in his name in 2013, chronicalling the 1920s gangster’s history of armed robbery, extortion, protection rackets, race fixing, drug and alcohol trafficking — and his eventual death in a 1927 shootout with Sydney rival John “Snowy” Cutmore.
