It’s been billed Australia’s “highest paying side hustle”. And it’s comparing household bill providers, with Canstar suggesting it could take just three hours of work for savings exceeding $11,300 a year. Many Aussies have never switched providers but the average family of four could save around $4,474 just by haggling, shopping around or refinancing core bills, according to Canstar. The comparison group said savings were often available even for those who did not switch providers and merely threatening to leave often resulted in improved rates. Canstar data insights director Sally Tindall said households needed to “break up the loyalty bandwagon,” with survey data showing half of all home loan borrowers have never switched providers.
