Gold Coast tenants win rent cut on mould-infested home

A Queensland tenant provided with a Notice of Intention to Leave form after complaining their $800-a-week rental was mould-infested has had their rent slashed and urgent repairs ordered after a real estate agent intervened. Boilermaker Mick Vincent said his house mate Nikala Howarth broke down in tears after moving into the three-bedroom property, which they shared with his son and her daughter, aged 2 and 4. Mr Vincent claimed the house was filthy, smelled of dog hair, and riddled with water damage. “We have a three-bedroom house that we can’t live in,” Mr Vincent said. “It was not clean, there was hair in the rooms, there was mould on the roof.” Building inspector Anthony Baldwin visited the home.
