U.S. foreclosure activity increased in July, with foreclosure filings rising 10% from a year earlier, although activity remained below historic norms, according to ATTOM‘s July 2026 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report released Thursday. A total of 39,906 U.S. properties had foreclosure filings in July, including default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions. That was up 1% from June and 10% from July 2025. “The increase in foreclosure starts and completed foreclosures compared to last year shows that financial pressures remain a factor for some homeowners,” Rob Barber, CEO of ATTOM, said in a statement. “However, the broader context is important. Foreclosure activity remains relatively low by historical standards.” Nevada recorded the highest foreclosure rate in July, with one filing for every 1,703 housing units. South Carolina followed with one in every 2,085 housing units, while Florida ranked third at one in every 2,232 units. Delaware and Texas rounded out the top five. Among metropolitan areas with at least 200,000 residents, Punta Gorda, Florida, had the highest foreclosure rate, with one filing for every 899 housing units.
