The Hawksburn Rd, South Yarra, mansion sold on the weekend at a private auction. A South Yarra mansion linked to one of Australia’s wealthiest dynasties and listed with $10.7m-$11.7m hopes scored a sale on Saturday. It comes as Victoria’s auction market soared to its highest clearance rate in almost six weeks, hitting a preliminary 55.7 per cent from 609 early results, according to realestate.com.au. That’s the highest the clearance figure has been since peaking at 57.2 per cent in the week ending August 9. Also on Saturday, the ex-wife of Victor Smorgon Group executive chairman Peter Edwards, Monica Edwards, farewelled her circa-1880s Italianate pad. Mr Edwards is the grandson of billionaire industrialist Victor Smorgon. Abercrombys’ Jock Langley said the Hawksburn Rd house achieved a “solid result” at a private auction but declined to comment on the sold price. Mr Langley said multiple bidders competed for the property, set on more than 1.8ha.
