Australians are being warned one of the nastiest bits of household rubbish is being kicked out of green bins, in a move set to reignite the great suburban bin wars. For pet owners, it means dog poo is no longer welcome in FOGO bins, sending the smelliest part of the weekly clean-up straight back into general waste. The rule change applies in Western Australia, where the state’s Waste Authority has quietly updated its guidance on what can go into green-lidded bins. Under the revised rules, pet poo, tea bags, paper towels and used pizza boxes are now banned from FOGO bins. Households are instead being told only garden waste, unpackaged food waste and certified compostable bin liners can go in.
