An Aussie family who lost more than $42,000 after the collapse of a tiny home company has been given a life-changing second chance, thanks to a surprise donation.
Paul and Kristene Bowley, based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, had spent months planning a granny flat for their son, who lives with an intellectual disability, hoping to create a safe and independent living space close to family support.
Instead, the couple were left financially and emotionally devastated after the tiny home they paid for never arrived.

The family had paid deposits and additional costs to My Little House before the company entered voluntary administration last month.
After seeing media coverage of the family’s situation, national housing provider Homes and Granny Flats reached out directly with an unexpected offer — a fully functional 20ft portable expander home, supplied and installed free of charge.
“When we saw their story, we couldn’t just sit back and do nothing,” said Christopher Sarkis, managing director for Homes and Granny Flats.
“This wasn’t about a failed project; this was about a family trying to build a better future for their son.”
“They had done everything right and were left in an incredibly difficult position.
“We wanted to give them certainty again and help restore some hope.”

Mr and Mrs Bowley were initially hesitant to accept the offer after months of uncertainty.
However, after speaking with the Homes and Granny Flats team, the couple accepted the donation.
“We felt incredibly grateful for the generosity and kindness and to be able to see the joy again in Sean’s face that he was actually getting his house, is a memory that will hold a place in our hearts,” they said.
Mr Sarkis said he hoped the gesture sends a broader message of support and hope at a time when many Australians are facing housing stress and rising financial pressures.
“To be able to provide a home and give this family certainty again is something we’re incredibly proud of,” Mr Sarkis said.
