Interior designer Alexandra Kidd has listed the Elizabeth Bay pad that she converted from a one-bedder into an extraordinary dual-level “sky garden” penthouse with rooftop pool.

81/6 Greenknowe Ave, Elizabeth Bay, with 540sqm of living space, just just hit the market with Jason Boon and Geoff Cox of Richardson & Wrench Elizabeth Bay.

Kidd’s husband Ian Day, a property developer and property lawyer, had bought a top-floor one-bedder in the Soho block at 81/6 Greenknowe Ave for $1.48m in 2005, property records show.

In 2021, the couple purchased the airspace above and added one-and-a-half extra levels.

“One of the greatest hurdles was the staircase, conceived as the dramatic bridge between the original apartment and the new addition,” Kidd told Belle magazine recently.

The incredible residence, which now has 540sqm of living space (380sqm internal plus 160sqm terrace), four bedrooms, four bathrooms and double parking, has also appeared in Habitus Living and soon in the coffee table book 50 Interiors from Around the Globe 1V.

Kidd and Day, who are now spending more time at their Bowral farm, have just listed the penthouse with a $12m guide in an expressions of interest campaign via Jason Boon and Geoff Cox of Richardson & Wrench Elizabeth Bay.

“It’s like a sky garden sitting on top of a building, and it’s got a very New York-type feeling, outdoor spaces, a pool and bright city lights,” Boon said.

“And it’s point of difference is the aspect, both east and west, plus the design, by a great designer, Alexandra Kidd.”

A sculptural staircase is “the dramatic bridge between the original apartment and the new addition”.

There are four bedrooms and four bathrooms.

Jaw-dropping harbour views.

The views, of course, are also impressive, of both the city and harbour.

All four bedrooms open directly to the terrace, taking in the harbour breezes and morning sun, with the master featuring dual walk-in wardrobes and an ensuite.

There are two interconnecting bedrooms, while a fourth could serve as a guest retreat or study.

The sculptural staircase leads to the upper level entertainment zone.

The Wolf and Sub-Zero appointed kitchen anchors the large living and dining area that opens to terraces on three sides and the pool.

There’s private lift access to the two car spots in the garage below.
