Picture: Supplied‘Holmslea’ at 24 West St, Aitkenvale, has been in the same family since it was built around the end of the 19th century and has been deemed a “place of culture heritage value” by Townsville City Council.The current owner said she was the fourth generation to live in the home and the third to own it.“It was my great-grandparents’ house and my father believed it was built before the turn of the (20th) century,” she said.“My great-grandparents (Martha and Christian Hansen) had eight kids and one of my great-uncles lived in the house with my great-grandmother after my great-grandfather died.“That great-uncle then had about 30 years in the house on his own.“When he passed away, the family wanted to keep the home in the family, and my husband and I were in the position to make that happen.“We moved in on December 31, 1986 … and my father renovated it for us so we could be more comfortable.”Martha Hansen (centre) with her children.
