What should have been a dream move for Jake Philpott and Kaylie Stott has turned into a bitter fight over just how close is too close, as Australia’s housing squeeze pushes new homes onto ever-smaller blocks. After years of saving, the couple moved their young family into their new Sunshine Coast home six months ago, believing they had finally secured their dream. Instead, they say they’ve been left feeling like “nobody really cares” after a neighbouring property was allowed to be built so close the gutters are almost touching. “We’ve thrown everything at this. We don’t have investment properties, we don’t have another house. This is everything that we’ve got,” Mr Philpott told A Current Affair.
