One of the fanciest homes in one of Sydney's premier harbourfront pockets is attracting wide interest from buyers — even though many locals have never even heard of the suburb.
Many Sutherland Shire locals have never heard of the tightly-held peninsula suburb of Burraneer, but that hasn’t stopped buyers from across Sydney flocking to inspect this waterfront home.

Lying to the west of Cronulla across pretty Gunnamatta Bay, Burraneer is a leafy, peaceful peninsula where many homes enjoy views of the water.
And this property, at an undisclosed address and price, stands out from the rest, says agent Mitchell Wynn at Highland Sutherland Shire and St George.
"It's probably one of the nicest homes I've been in, purely because of the expense the vendors have poured into it. It's high-end — edgy, yet with a lovely family feel," he said.
"Inquiry levels have been fantastic."

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom waterfront estate has been meticulously transformed over the past eight years with luxury finishes and bespoke fixtures.
Set on a sprawling 1,539sqm waterfront parcel that's unusually level for the area, the property borders the boat-dotted bay — and includes a private jetty with mooring poles, a slipway and a pontoon to help its owners enjoy it.
"It's very appealing for buyers who've been waiting for a true waterfront," said Mr Wynn. "The sunny aspect and beautiful outlook are a real drawcard. And while many waterfronts lack privacy, the owners have cleverly created it through thoughtful landscaping and dense hedging."
"And the house itself — there's literally nothing to do."

Spanning two expansive light-filled levels, the residence offers grand formal and casual living zones with sweeping water views linking to divine outdoor entertaining areas, including a vine-draped terrace, level lawns and a pool.

The marble kitchen is equipped with a Wolf double oven, integrated Sub-Zero fridge and freezer, two Vintec wine fridges and a walk-in pantry. Additional features include a media room, gym and study.
The luxurious master suite flows to a boutique-style walk-through dressing room, a sleek ensuite and a private terrace. All three bathrooms and the guest powder room boast underfloor heating.

Security is top-notch, with an alarm system, video surveillance and a triple garage with secure parking, plus space for six more vehicles off-street.
Waterfront homes in Burraneer tend to start at around $6m — cheaper than some other Sydney harbourside suburbs — but prices are soaring.
The median house price jumped 9.9% over the last 12 months to $3.63m (compared to 5.7% for Sydney as a whole), with the unit price surged a staggering 62.6% to $1.69m.

My Wynn said the suburb's exclusivity was part of its appeal.
"It's probably one of the most affluent pockets in our LGA, with only around 1,200 to 1,300 houses — so there's not a lot available."

While Burraneer remains something of a hidden gem, even among those in the Shire, Mr Wynn said the estate is attracting buyers from as far as Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and the Inner West.
"On this peninsula, people like to stay here long term, but over the last five or 10 years, we found a fairly big influx of people from other parts of Sydney too," he said.
"For this property, I've had a lot of inquiries from within the Sutherland Shire as well as those from other parts of Sydney as well as from expats coming home."
