After fending off multimillion-dollar offers for decades, a Queensland builder’s medieval turreted castle is up for sale – with potential for the 4ha site to hold more than 100 homes.
Brian Rumble, now in his mid-80s, rejected offers over $2.5 million for decades to preserve his stone-by-stone passion project but has now listed it for auction in Greater Brisbane region’s sizzling southern growth corridor under Logan City Council.

Mr Rumble, who is also an artist and sculptor, handmade many features such as the leadlight windows, ornate sculptures and castle turrets – turning what was once a builder’s yard into a four-level medieval-style residence.
The listing describes the home as a “four-storey castle with a rooftop hatch, ornate timber carvings, and a drop-down timber chandelier,” along with a “Tudor-style dining and living room with a dry bar.”
The estate also includes a two-storey artist studio or guest accommodation, sweeping cottage gardens, two commercial sheds and extensive garaging.

The listing is a major shift in approach by the Rumbles, given developers had been knocked back multiple times over the past two decades including 2007, 2015 and 2017 – when serious offers were refused by Mr Rumble who had wanted the castle’s legacy to be able to live on.
The site is so unique it had even inspired Brisbane photographer Rebecca Jones to launch a Change.org petition calling for council to step in and preserve the property, attracting more than 1,500 signatures – many who had visited the fantasy themed property when it was open free most Sundays for visitors.
The dining room thrilled visitors.
A fantasy master bedroom.
Ray White Rochedale marketing agents Sunny Singh and Syed Ali have it listed to go to auction on Wednesday, March 25 at 6pm, describing it as “the rarest and largest development opportunity on the market”.
“Our focus is on developers and this is one of the last parcels left for developments of this size in the area,” Mr Singh said.
The 40,150sq m landholding is zoned “LDR – Small Lot Precinct” with the listing outlining an existing development approval for three acreage lots and stating that its future potential was “reconfiguration into 100 plus residential lots (STCA)”.
The property has enough land to built more than 100 homes on 300s sqm blocks.
“Whether you choose to develop, landbank or make it your private sanctuary, Castle Rumble presents an unparalleled opportunity to own a true masterpiece and live like royalty or develop.”
Questions regarding the current sale were sent to Mr Rumble who is now in his mid-80s. The unique property’s future will be decided at auction on March 25.
