An $8500 backyard gym addition to 22 Coniston Drive, Airport West, had buyers clamouring for this record-breaking home.
A child’s dream back yard complete with a pool, basketball court and $8500 ninja gym has helped an Airport West home to a $2.52m suburb record.
And buyers were so enamoured with the 22 Conniston Ave property they not only refused to wait for the auction day — they refused to wait more than a week to make offers.
Vendor, Andrew, said the sale had come as a surprise — and not just the price.

“I didn’t know that we would break a record,” he said.
“And the thing that made nervous was that it went online on Thursday, and it was sold a week later.
“But we’re thrilled with the result, and more than thrilled another family will enjoy the house.”
The ninja gym in the back yard was an online order from Perth as a Christmas gift for the kids, and while it came with an $8500 price tag — he said he was confident it had more than paid for itself as they sold up.
The home has plenty of charm from the facade, but there’s little sign of its family-friendly rear garden.
The backyard has space for kids to play soccer, basketball, swim and enjoy their own ninja gym.
“I don’t think anyone going into that back yard could have faulted it,” he said.
“I have three girls, and I did the back yard up so they would go in there and they’d have the Ninja Warrior set and the pool and spa and basketball; it’s everything I wanted as a kid.”
The house, only completed about a year or two ago, features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a formal lounge room, study and open-plan kitchen, meals and living zone at the rear.
But despite having loved the home, Andrew said they had been able to regard it as “four walls” to help them let go of it.
A West director Mark Marazita handled the sale and said it had comfortably eclipsed Airport West’s record, a $2.45m sale notched on Chancellor St in September.
Mr Marazita said after one buyer had come forward with an offer at $2.45m, a second party had gone even higher.
The home’s open-plan living zones also appealed to buyers.
A luxurious kitchen space offers plenty of room to cater to a crowd, or to refuel the family.
Both parties were families, and all had appreciated the rear garden — with the ninja gym expected to be added to the sale as a negotiated extra.
“It definitely was an attraction and helped people visualise themselves in the backyard with the basketball court and the pool,” Mr Marazita said.
He added that while the record breaking home was different to many others in the suburb due to the size of its back yard, the result should be a sign of buyer confidence in the suburb.
In a bizarre twist, instead of calling the auction as planned on Saturday, Mr Marazita said he’d instead had to call an Uber to go and put the sold sticker up after his car suffered a flat tire.
