Long-vacant government-owned land in Sydney’s inner city is set to make way for 15 social homes, with plans progressing to redevelop the prime Woolloomooloo site. The plans are being progressed by the Minns Labor Government after the land has been sitting vacant for 37 years, since a former building contract was terminated by mutual agreement in 1989. Identified through the NSW Government’s statewide land audit as surplus land suitable for housing, the proposal is the latest government-owned site to be earmarked for new homes with initial plans for 13 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units. Homes NSW has begun engaging with the community ahead of lodging a Development Application with the City of Sydney in December. They are seeking approval to build a new three storey residential building with the 15 social homes in total along with landscaping and other site improvements. Local residents and community members are being asked to have their say on the proposal and what they value about the suburb through a community survey open until October 30, 2026. 56-66 Nicholson St, Woolloomooloo Prelimary Render.
