A US couple is facing the prospect of losing their first home after an unexpected Homeowners Association (HOA) bill ballooned to nearly $30,000. Tatiana Pimentel poured her life savings into a townhouse in Georgia in 2024, hoping to finally secure homeownership after living in the US for 25 years. Her official closing documents showed a zero-dollar balance owed to the homeowners association. But less than a year after moving in with her fiance, Obren Cicmil, the local condominium association filed to foreclose on their home over $US8,000 ($A12,000) in allegedly unpaid dues. The association now claims the couple owes almost $US20,000 ($A30,000) once monthly assessments and legal fees are tacked on, according to Atlanta News First. “I have no idea how the amount became so high,” Ms Pimentel told the outlet.
