The statement colours set to transform Aussie renos in 2026

From moody greens to deep blues, bold shades are being used in strategic ways to give renovated homes edge and lasting appeal.

When renovating your home, choosing the right colour choice can make the difference.

Statement colours can be a strong option – giving rooms personality while creating a focal point. This can be as subtle as using it on cabinetry or as striking as a bold front door.

Many renovators turn to paint trend reports for guidance. These curated collections can offer advice on choosing shades that reflect your personal style.

One example is Taubmans’ Team Spirit, its 2026 Colour of the Year. Described as a grounded green with soft grey undertones, this shade blends trend-led design with the calming influence of nature.

According to Taubmans’ national colour and design manager Fiona Dawson, Team Spirit’s versatility is key to why it works for renovations.

“Inspired by nature’s quiet strength, its soft green-grey tone brings a sense of calm and is the perfect go-to shade for creating harmony in the home,” Ms Dawson said.

Green-based statement colours often have a grounding effect, according to experts. They connect interiors to landscapes, making them ideal for Australian homes where indoor and outdoor living flow together. They also work with timber, stone, rattan, and pair well with whites or warm neutrals.

Part of the brand’s Down To Earth 12-colour palette, this shade offers renovators a statement look that works now and for the future.

The palette also includes a mix of neutrals, accents and whites. Designer White is suggested for doors, trims and ceilings, while softer green tones like Birch Forest can be used in furniture or décor to tie spaces together.

Where to go bold

When incorporating statement colours, it’s important to be strategic by using them where they add impact or highlight a feature without overpowering the whole design.

Here’s how you can incorporate statement colours when renovating.

Feature walls

In a living room, bedroom or study, a single bold wall can be a focal point without dominating the space.

Cabinetry makeovers

Coloured kitchen, laundry or bathroom cabinets can add depth and contrast to all-white schemes.

Bold front doors

A strong shade at your home’s entry can create a welcoming focal point and brighten the exterior.
