37 Palmerston Ave, Templestowe Lower, has served as a family home for more than five decades.
A Templestowe Lower house which served as a beloved family home for 54 years unexpectedly changed hands for more than $1m on the weekend.
One of the vendors’ adult children, Julieann, said her parents, Doede and Marian Huisman, had purchased the house after moving from NSW to Victoria.
“They came from Sydney and bought it when Templestowe Lower was just all orchards,” Julieann said.

Her mother passed away aged 90 and her father, now 93, is selling up with plans to move into aged care as the four-bedroom abode is simply too large for him.
Julieann said that she, along with her brother and sister, had greatly enjoyed their childhoods at 37 Palmerston Ave.
Her treasured memories include celebrating both of her parents’ ninetieth birthdays at the house and gatherings with their six grandchildren and four-great grandchildren.
Julieann said that her mum and dad had updated the bathrooms and kitchen across the years they had lived in the home.
Photos of different generations of their family remain proudly on display.

The garden has been well-loved by the owners.
Marian and Doede would have celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary on June 30 this year but sadly, Julieann’s mother passed away shortly beforehand.
She added that both of her parents had loved spending time outdoors, with Marian keeping budgies and cockatiels as pets.
“Mum loved birds and dad had huge goldfish and loved his garden,” she said.
She said the house had been a good family home “and that is hopefully what it will continue to be”.
“It’s got good bones and it’s in a nice area with plenty of schools and parks,” Julieann noted.
The lounge and dining area offers an open fireplace.
The house is zoned to Templestowe Heights Primary School and Templestowe College, and is close to Westfield Doncaster, Templestowe Village and Macedon Plaza.
Real estate agency Darren Jones director Max Jones said three bidders had competed for the keys to the house at Saturday’s auction, with home was listed for $950,000-$990,000.
Although the auction started slowly, once the property was placed on the market at about the $975,000 mark, “the floodgates opened” and it sold for $1.085m.
“Once we on the market it went berserk,” Mr Jones said.

The new owners, a couple with a young child, are planning to live in the dwelling.
Mr Jones said with the current Melbourne market’s lower clearance rates and softening home prices, he and his colleagues were not taking as many properties to auction compared to a few months ago.
“We went ahead with this one because it’s a good home and the owners were realistic,” he said.
“But we’re finding that with more private sales, we’re sometimes only getting one or two offers at the right level and the rest are a bit more opportunistic at the moment.”
