An Aussie investor with over 150 properties in his portfolio has revealed the five cities and towns he believes will defy the property market downturn and continue to see “big growth”. Australian Property Scout director Sam Gordon said that while affordability pressures would drag on many parts of the country next year, tight rental markets, low supply and strong local demand could keep a handful of cities and regions firmly in growth territory. And Darwin tops his list of housing markets set to outperform in 2027. “My genuine pick for growth in 2027, and I’ve been very bullish on this, is Darwin,” Mr Gordon said. “When you stack all of it up, the only thing that Darwin doesn’t have in its favour is its population size – but the 140,000 population means it has more of a chance of being in a pressure cooker scenario versus a 1-2m population – meaning big growth. “For me, Darwin is the one that still ticks all the boxes.” Australian Property Scout director Sam Gordon He also believes Darwin is much earlier in its growth cycle than several markets on his top five list, having only started moving in the past 12 to 18 months.
