Pensioner’s bizarre garden dispute after adding value to homes

An 80-year-old pensioner who turned a patch of mud into a blooming garden says he’s been banned from touching it again after a housing association declared his tiny picket fence a safety risk and confiscated his lawnmower. Julian Phillips, from Norwich in England, says he spent weeks transforming the shabby communal space outside his block of flats into a tidy lawn and flower bed, only to find himself at the centre of a bitter row with housing group Orbit. The green-thumbed resident said he created the garden to brighten the area for everyone living in the 31-flat complex, laying fresh turf, planting colourful flowers and putting up a foot-high fence to stop cars from driving over the newly finished space. Instead of receiving a thanks, he was told to tear it down.
