A much-loved mid-century modern house in Hawthorn East soared an impressive $305,000 past reserve to sell for $2.205m on the weekend. The cool residence was originally built by noted Melbourne designer, Sol Sapir, as his family home in 1963. The abode’s current owner and her late husband bought the property in 1977 and raised their three children there. A-Z Real Estate Agency’s Sam Christensen said three bidders competed for the keys to the 2 Rosslyn St address on Saturday, as a crowd of about 150 people looked on. It took about 30 seconds from the $1.7m opening offer for bidding to reach $2m, a number higher than the $1.9m reserve.
