A retired doctor’s rare amalgamated fourth-floor apartment in the Art Deco treasure the Macleay Regis in Potts Point has hit the market. Dr Peter Stewart was able to convince the board of the iconic company-title 1930s building in 2019 of the merits of joining the two neighbouring one-bedders bought in 2006 and 2009. The amalgamation may have been helpful for Gretel Packer, who owns the ninth-floor penthouse, purchased for $8.75m in 2017, and its sub-penthouse neighbour, bought for $9m in 2023. She won approval earlier this year from the board to amalgamate the two to create an 865sqm ‘mega penthouse’. Another famous owner, the actor David Wenham, had previously joined his neighbouring apartments on level seven. He sold up for $5,755,000 in 2022.
