This renovated home at 24 George St, Geelong West, is on the market for $1.295m to $1.395m.
Located in popular Geelong West, this three-bedroom home has been extensively renovated, blending timeless character with contemporary living.
The vendors, Olly Stenmark and his partner, purchased 24 George St in 2022 and are only the second owners of the property.
“The original home had been well-loved by the family that had built it in 1948. We appreciated that we would be only the second owners and that it had never been improved with ad hoc ‘Frankenstein’ renovations throughout the years,” Mr Stenmark said.

“There were elements of the house that stood out to us that were different to other fixer-uppers we viewed; being triple fronted on a wide block, the decorative steelwork on the large windows, which were handmade by the original owner and, of course, the coveted rear access that takes you straight to a community playground at the end of the street.”
The renovations aimed to preserve the home’s original character.
“The elements we brought back to life were the large street-facing windows, exterior decorative steelwork, Tasmanian oak flooring, which was a bonus we found under the bright green carpet, and the decorative ceiling in the main bedroom,” Mr Stenmark said.
“We reused the old Geelong red bricks from the demolition and recycled them to create a garden path.”

The new north-facing extension connects the home to the rear garden.
There’s space for entertaining outside, as well as a large lawn area.
To bring the vision to life, the vendors engaged Design in Mind Architects and local tradies.
“As an owner-builder, I was mindful to have our architect involved throughout the process to ensure integrity was retained throughout the build,” Mr Stenmark said. “The brief to our architect was that we wanted to honour the original house, then to execute a seamless flow as you step into the contemporary new space. Colour was paramount to create a sense of joy in the heart of the home, and our rule was no ‘millennial grey’.”
The vendors’ favourite elements include the 5.6m sliding doors in the north-facing extension, which flood the space with morning light.
The main bedroom has classic features like an fireplace and picture rails.
The home’s light-filled nature even extends to the walk-in wardrobe.
A claw foot bath is a nod to the home’s heritage in the main bathroom.
“We often say it feels like we’re on vacation at home – natural light is such a mood booster,” Mr Stenmark said.
Positioned on the border of Newtown with the vibrancy of Geelong West, the location is also a drawcard.
“The hardest part of our weekends is often choosing which cafe to have brunch at,” Mr Stenmark said.
Rear access to a double garage, a front driveway that offers additional off-street parking and lawn space for kids and pets to play in add to the property’s overall appeal.
Whitford, Newtown agent John Moran is handling the sale of 24 George St, Geelong West. Price hopes are $1.295m to $1.395m.
