3/3 Petrel Ave, Mermaid Beach
Long-time Gold Coast property mogul Simon Newitt didn’t just want a beachside apartment.
He wanted a private rooftop resort with a pool he could heat to 40 degrees, swim-up bar stools, spa jets, and colour-changing lights – and at 3/3 Petrel Avenue Mermaid Beach, he got it.
The former owner of Tallai’s infamous “Skyfall” James Bond style mansion that sold for a suburb record in 2025, Mr Newitt has an eye for spaces that combine drama, luxury and a sense of occasion – which is why he admits he’s a sucker for a view.

“I’m huge on a view,” Mr Newitt said.
“Up there, you’re sitting higher than the surrounding rooftops. You can see the hinterland, down to Nobby’s Beach and across the skyline.”
It was this outlook that sealed Mr Newitt’s decision to buy off-the-plan.
“Another clincher for us in buying this one was the kids getting their own space,” Mr Newitt says.
“With three ensuited bedrooms they each have their own retreat – and the rooftop pool and entertaining area just put it over the top.
“The kids love it, and when friends come over, the pool, the cabana, the sound system – it’s the place everyone hangs out.”

Spanning the top two levels of Tres, a boutique three-residence building by Grimmond and BDA Architecture, the apartment offers a house-sized 321sqm of indoor-outdoor living.
The apartment is on the top level of TRES
Soaring 2.8m ceilings, natural stone and timber finishes, and a chef’s kitchen with V-ZUG and Liebherr appliances are paired with a discreet butler’s pantry and sleek bar, all flowing seamlessly into the open-plan living and dining zones.
A custom suspended fireplace anchors the space, while sliding doors retract to connect the interiors with a balcony overlooking lush Nobby Headland.
But it’s the rooftop that steals the show – according to Mr Newitt, it’s a private sky-high playground.
“You actually use the roof – it’s not just for show,” Mr Newitt says.
“I am big on privacy, and this ticks all the boxes there.”
It has house-sized proportions
Sitting above the surrounding buildings, it features a heated pool that climbs to 40 degrees, spa jets, bubbles, and three swim-up bar stools built right into the water.
Custom lighting changes the mood as the sun rises and sets, while glass panels frame uninterrupted ocean and skyline vistas.
A raised cabana, an enclosed kitchenette with bar, powder room, and full surround-sound speakers transform the terrace into a fully functional entertaining space.
“There is everything you need up here and it is fit for any occasion, year-round,” he said.
“This apartment is quite literally the type of place you come home to on a Friday, park the car and don’t touch it again until Monday morning.
“Everything you could want is within easy reach.”

3/3 Petrel Ave, Mermaid Beach
Kollosche agent Rob Lamb said the three-bedroom, three-bathroom, property was attracting the attention of discerning local downsizers.
“It’s the perfect fit for people looking to downsize without compromising on space or lifestyle,” Mr Lamb said.
“You still get your own pool, rooftop terrace and outdoor kitchen, but with the convenience of low-maintenance living just steps from the beach.”

Mr Lamb said the three car spaces were also a “highly unusual offering”.
“Given Mermaid’s growing popularity, having three car spaces per apartment is great future planning,” he said.
From its opulent master suite with day-spa-style ensuite and walk-in robe, to the additional ensuited bedrooms, Venetian-plaster powder rooms, app-controlled lighting, ducted air-conditioning, and 11sqm lockable storage cage with EV charger, Tres combines luxury, functionality, and sophistication.
Kollosche will take 3/3 Petrel Avenue Mermaid Beach to auction on Friday 27 February at 2:30pm.
