One state’s economy is topping the tables, with a surge in housing investment coming despite a weakening property market.Queensland’s economy has been declared the strongest in the nation, according to a new report ranking the states across key economic measures.The Sunshine State’s economy has shot past Western Australia’s to become the nation’s strongest, according to the CommBank State of the States report for the September quarter.The report, which ranks the states based on indicators such as household consumption, dwelling investment, public and private investment and wage growth, shows Queensland’s economy is powering ahead despite cooling home values and slowing household spending.Dwelling investment in Queensland has increased 16.8% year-on-year, according to the report, outpacing all the other states.Source: CommBank State of the States September 2026Queensland also has the second-strongest wage growth at 3.4% and the second-lowest unemployment rate at 4.1%.However, report author Harry Ottley noted that worsening housing affordability may be denting household spending in the state and slowing interstate migration.Queensland's economy has been ranked the strongest of all th...
