Elton John marries Renate Blauel at St Mark’s Church in Darling Point on Valentine’s Day, 1984. He fell in love with the ‘Bang & Olufsen House’ at about the same time. The Sydney waterfront that Elton John fell in love with and named the ‘Bang & Olufsen House’ because of its tinted glass and flat roof that resembled a high-tech stereo system is for sale. The rock star legend had been cruising on Sydney Harbour in the 1980s and was so impressed with the home that he organised an inspection and made an $11m offer to buy it, which he later withdrew after he decided he didn’t want to own Sydney real estate. They divorced in 1988 and Elton came out as gay a short time later. It’s a shame he didn’t proceed with his Sydney property purchase, as the Wolseley Cres Point Piper residence is now worth considerably more than $11m — it’s currently being quietly shopped around with a $130m price guide via Forbes Global Properties.
