The rockstar of Australian jewellery design Millie Savage is set to farewell her artistic Fitzroy sanctuary with a $2.25m-$2.35m range.

Ms Savage’s creations have been worn by celebrities including Miley Cyrus and Chappell Roan.

In addition to a Fitzroy shopfront and studio in the same suburb as Ms Savage’s home, the label has London and New York boutiques.

The jeweller has been dubbed the “rock star of Australia’s jewellery industry” by popular fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar.

Ms Savage said she had enjoyed the two-bedroom terrace’s proximity to Brunswick St’s eateries and the Carlton Gardens where she enjoys walking her dog, Sparkles.

The home at 44 Bell St, located within the circa-1855 former Fitzroy National School, was renovated in a project led by MvS Architects prior to Ms Savage purchasing.

The galley-style kitchen comes complete with custom cabinetry, integrated appliances and stone benchtops.

Millie Savage started selling her jewellery at markets and outside stores before moving into a Brunswick studio and shop. She now has boutiques in Fitzroy, London and New York.

The abode features an upstairs living and dining area with a galley kitchen, fireplace, original columns, balcony overlooking the greenery-filled back yard and two-car garage.

“The huge windows bring in ridiculous natural light, soft dappled southern light in the morning which felt like the obvious place for a painting by one of my best mates Ajay Jennings (an artist and designer),” Ms Savage said.

She’s hung works by artists Charlie Harding, Ben Minkley, Charlotte Alldis, Kepsibel and Jessie Spencer throughout the home too.

A peaceful courtyard sits at the house’s rear.

Artworks and pops of colour add a sense of creativity to the renovated home.

Ms Savage described the main bedroom’s ceiling which wraps around a central pendant as similar to a sculpture, while the ensuite showcases a custom-made bathtub and handmade Japanese finger tiles.

“I love being surrounded by colour and chaos and beautiful things, and Bell St gave me the wall space to lean all the way into that,” she added.

Hosting dinner parties at the abode has even inspired a new project she is working on, The Makers Table, involving artists across different disciplines creating plates, glassware, textiles, food and drinks.

Both bedrooms have ensuites, while the house also offers a powder room and European laundry.

Work commitments and Ms Savage’s Gherang farm on the Surf Coast are among the reasons she has decided to sell the Bell St residence.

“There’s a lot in motion – expanding my own art practice, still hand-making jewellery constantly and my life in Gherang only works if I’m actually there getting dirt under my nails and looking after the land, plants, animals and general farm chaos,” she added.

Nelson Alexander’s Charlie Barham described the house as a great fit for couples, creatives or downsizers who appreciate design but also want something easy to live in.

“It’s not a huge sprawling family house, but it’s perfect for buyers who want character, light, and a bit of wow factor without the maintenance headache,” Mr Barham said.

The home is located within the former Fitzroy National School building.

The award-winning MvS Architects renovated the house under its previous owners.

He added that a house with a greenery-filled courtyard was rare in Fitzroy.

“Add in the balcony upstairs and suddenly you’ve got proper usable outdoor space in an inner-city setting,” Mr Barham noted.

“It gives the house breathing room and makes it feel much more like a home than a typical terrace or conversion.”

The house will be auctioned at 6.30pm on Thursday March 5.
