Picture: Glenn Hampson Buyer’s agent Tamara Henman bought and sold 10 properties before landing her prized 405 sqm block, just metres from the sand at blue-chip Mermaid Beach. Ms Henman paid $1.25m for an original three-bedroom brick house in 2018 and quickly fell in love with its mid-century soul. Ms Henman pictured in the home’s tropical barbecue area Picture: Glenn Hampson “The goal was always to get to Mermaid Beach, as close to the beach as possible,” Ms Henman said. “We thought we’d live in it for a couple of years and knock it down, so at first we just gave it a good landscaping and a lick of paint. “But I got in there and thought, ‘Oh my God, I love it. I don’t need anything else.’ It was like a little oasis in the middle of Mermaid Beach.” Ms Henman called off the wrecking ball, completing a careful renovation to preserve its 1960s architecture without overcapitalising.
