Berkshire Hathaway has signaled its long-term confidence in the residential real estate market by increasing its stake in prominent homebuilder Lennar and acquiring new shares of home developer DR Horton this past quarter.Berkshire Hathaway boosted is stake in Lennar by around 30% to $1.157 billion. It also purchased a much smaller stake in builder D.R. Horton of around $580,000. Horton is the largest homebuilder in the United States by volume, while Lennar is the second largest.Berkshire Hathaway initially invested into both companies in 2025. At the time, the Warren Buffett-led juggernaut invested nearly $1 billion total into both companies — around $800 million into Lennar, and around $191.5 into DR Horton, though it later sold off much of its stake in Horton."Berkshire investing in homebuilding is a boost of confidence for new home supply in the U.S.," Realtor.com® senior economist Joel Berner said at the time.
