South Australia has the highest energy bills in Australia, new research reveals, as rising prices continue to put further strain on household budgets. The analysis from energy comparison service iSelect shows there is a gap of $900 per year between the states and territories with the most affordable bills and those facing the most significant financial pressure. Its Australian Energy Affordability Index combines average household energy costs with median earnings in each state and territory then factors in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for each capital city to reflect broader cost-of-living pressures.
