Angelina Jolie’s US exit plans delayed by home sale struggle

Angelina Jolie is reportedly plotting a permanent escape from the US, but her Los Angeles mansion is delaying the move.

The Hollywood actress will finally be legally permitted to take all six of her children out of the country when twins Vivienne and Knox turn 18 this month.

However, her 1022sq m compound has sat entirely unsold since being hit hard by a sluggish luxury market in early May.

The Oscar-winning star shared in 2025 that she hopes to unwind in picturesque Battambang in Cambodia, with New York City serving as a US base for work.

But her Los Feliz mansion is blocking her quick exit.

The Tomb Raider star is still struggling to sell the property after first listing it for close to $45m ($US29.85m) in early May.

According to official property listings, the large compound remains logged as “for sale”.

“Angelina is smart, she knew it would take a while to sell the property even though it is gorgeous and legendary, because the housing market has slowed in Los Angeles, but it still is annoying,” a source told the Daily Mail.

“She wants to get away from Los Angeles and her memories there with her ex Brad Pitt. It’s time for a new phase in a new city with her children in tow.

Jolie has been looking forward to the day Vivienne and Knox turn 18 because it represents legal freedom from past custody constraints.

“As soon as they turn 18, she can leave the US with them,” the insider said. “She would never leave even one of them behind.

“She can still leave even if the Los Feliz house has not sold, but that’s frustrating. It would be nice to be done with the past.

“However, she can go anywhere she wants, she has plenty of money. Her heart belongs to Cambodia.”

The source said she would maintain a base in New York City where she has plenty of friends, including her ex Jonny Lee Miller, and her pals at her Atelier Jolie shop.

Built in 1913, the six-bedroom was once the residence of famed director Cecil B. DeMille, who lived there until his death in 1959.

The 0.8ha lot boasts a swimming pool, pool house, guesthouse, tea house and arched fountains.

The home features an array of multi-aspect living rooms, a library room, a grand wood-panelled dining room, and an old farmhouse-style kitchen.

Jolie snapped up the property for $38m ($US25m) in 2017 after leaving Pitt, 62, who maintained a home nearby.

The former couple raised children Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17.

Maddox, Zahara and Knox have all dropped “Pitt” from their last names, seemingly confirming rumours they are estranged from their father.

The Beowulf actress hinted at a move away from Los Angeles during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024.

“I grew up in this town,” she said. “I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.

“When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.”

On where she will go next, she said she would spend a lot of time in Cambodia and visiting her family members wherever they may be in the world.

She later suggested politics also played a part in her move. Speaking at the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2025, Jolie said she loved her country but did not recognise it at this time.

Pitt and Jolie reached a divorce settlement in January 2017, agreeing to keep proceedings private.

The Maleficent star filed for divorce from her husband — whom she had been in a relationship with since 2004 and married to since 2014 — in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences.

The pair stated at the time that they were “committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification” by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge.

The former couple owned a huge portfolio of property together, including a mansion in New Orleans, which they sold in October 2016, and their French estate Chateau Miraval, where they tied the knot.

Chateau Miraval is a 485ha property purchased by the now-estranged couple for an estimated $90m ($US60m) in 2012, after previously leasing it starting in 2008.

Jolie does not seem to have dated since her split from Pitt.

The actor, however, has moved on with jewellery executive Ines de Ramon, and the two reportedly live together at his home in Los Angeles.

Pitt purchased a $18m ($US12m) Spanish-style mansion in the exclusive Outpost Estates in August 2025.

The six bedroom estate was previously owned by The Killers guitarist Dave Keuning.
