As Australian households continue to grapple with skyrocketing petrol prices, former Adelaide Crows captain Rory Sloane has offered a “solution” that’s equal parts hilarious and utterly impractical, taking social media by storm.

The retired AFL star, known for his relentless work rate on the field, has applied that same energy to a common household chore, sharing a “life hack” designed to beat the bowser blues. In a video posted to the star’s private Instagram, Sloane is seen sprinting across his lawn, vigorously pushing a petrol mower, all while declaring it the “only way to mow your lawn in a petrol shortage.”

While the efficacy of this high-octane mowing technique in actually saving fuel is debatable, it certainly highlights the sheer physical prowess required to even attempt such a feat.

Most Australians would struggle to keep pace with the former midfielder, let alone maintain it for an entire lawn (we certainly would).

Sloane himself acknowledged the absurdity, joking in the caption, “F*ck it!! I’m getting a sheep,” suggesting a more sustainable, albeit woolly, alternative.

The clip has resonated deeply online, tapping into the widespread frustration over fuel costs while providing a much-needed dose of light relief.

Sloane is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League.

Comments poured in, with one person suggesting, “Get the kids out there with a pair of scissors. Keep them entertained for hours and you save on fuel.”

Another remarked on a similar, albeit less strenuous, approach: “I do this with my electric mower so the battery doesn’t die before I’ve finished.”

Sloane’s viral moment serves as a humorous reminder that while going flat out might not solve the nation’s petrol problems, it can certainly make the daily grind a little more entertaining.
