The average renter across Adelaide is paying $1560 more per year then they were this time last year. Realestate.com.au’s September Rental Report, released today, shows Adelaide’s median weekly rent for all dwellings has reached a new peak of $630. This eclipses both Melbourne and Hobart’s $600, and puts us on par with our nation’s capital, which also recorded a $635 median rent. Growth-wise, it’s up 0.8 per cent over the quarter and 5 per cent over the past year. This means a renter of a median-priced property is paying $1560 more than they were last September, and a whopping $11,180 more than they were five years ago. Adelaide’s median weekly rent for houses is $650, with prices not lifting for the quarter, but up 4.8 per cent over the past year, while units rent on average for $560, again, with values unchanged for the quarter, but up 3.7 per cent over the past year. Those looking to rent in regional SA were handed a lifeline, with the median house rent dropping 2.1 per cent to $460 over the past quarter, despite being up 4.5 per cent over the past year.
