It can be tempting to spend your paycheck as soon as you get it.But, many Americans do just that, with 40% spending most of their paycheck within 48 hours, according to a recent survey by FinanceBuzz and Wells Fargo. Another 46% make a purchase to "treat themselves".While celebrating payday with a fancy dinner or new gadget may feel good in the moment, it could also hurt you down the road, especially if you’re a homeowner. "This type of spending reflects both financial pressure and emotional relief. In today's economy, many Americans reach payday already behind on bills, groceries, gas, or debt payments, so they spend quickly to catch up on expenses they delayed during the previous pay period," says Markia Brown, accredited financial counselor at The Money Plug in Baltimore. Instead of spending your paycheck right away, consider allocating some of it toward a home emergency fund.
