Billionaire Westfield heiress Rina Ryba and her husband Nathan Ryba have snapped up a $15.3m Vaucluse mansion just a day after welcoming a bouncing baby boy.

It’s quite an upgrade for the Rybas, who currently reside in a two-bedroom apartment in Beach Rd, Bondi Beach, which Nathan bought for $1.67m in 2018.

Although the ground floor apartment opens to a small level lawn perfect for a toddler, this new bub is set to have a much bigger and grander back yard.

The couple, who married in March 2023, are known to have been on the hunt for a large family home in the east all year.

Rina is the daughter of Steven Lowy, former co-CEO of Westfield Corporation, and his wife, Judy, and the granddaughter of Frank Lowy, the 95-year-old Holocaust survivor turned shopping centre multi-billionaire. Steven and Judy reside in a massive Watsons Bay waterfront compound and Frank spends a lot of time in Israel but has long owned a waterfront mansion in Wolseley Rd, Point Piper.

The $15.3m Vaucluse mansion is on an 800sqm block. It comes with architectural plans for a three-storey rebuild.

It’s unclear whether the Rybas are going to get by with the current home, or proceed with the rebuild.

Rina’s brother, Joshua, had married his bride, Britt Friende, in an extravagant $3m wedding ceremony at Centennial Park in 2018 and they now reside in a Tamarama mansion that cost $16.35m in 2021.

Rina and Nathan’s new abode is the home of print scion James Hannan and his wife Leura, which had a $15m guide for an auction scheduled for last night. But it sold prior to the auction, a week ago.

James, chief executive officer of marketing agency SBM, is the son of print baron Michael Hannan, who was the chairman of Ovato which printed the late Kerry Packer’s stable of glossy magazines that included the Women’s Weekly.

Records show it was bought in the name of Laura, head of special projects at Yatsal Distributors, in June 2023 for $12m.

The BadgerFox sales agents of the property, Alexander George, and Alex Papa, said they couldn’t comment about the sale when asked to confirm rumours that the Rybas were the buyers and reveal the price.

They said they could only confirm it sold above the $15m guide.

The house last traded for $12m two years ago.

The pool means plenty of family fun in summer.

But multiple sources today confirmed they were the purchasers and also revealed the exact price.

Nathan’s Linked In profile reveals he was general manager of financial services firm Mighty Partners until August. Rina is in revenue operations for global financial technology firm Airwallex.

The house is full of natural light thanks to its perfect northerly-easterly aspect on the 800sqm block.

It features five bedrooms, including a master suite with ensuite.

The fifth bedroom is a self-contained pool house, which could serve as guest accommodation.

The house comes DA approved plans for a brand new five-bedroom three-storey luxury home designed by Weir Phillips Architects.

It’s unclear whether the Rybas plan to proceed with the rebuild or get by with the current pad.
