The mid-century house at 2 Wattle Ave, Werribee, sold on the weekend.
An interstate buyer has snapped up a Werribee house that he did not see in person until just a Saturday auction.
The Queensland man loved the three-bedroom house’s mid-century character so much he didn’t consult with his partner before placing the winning $946,000 bid.
But Hocking Stuart principal Justin Tong said luckily, the buyer’s partner was ecstatic when he called her following the auction.

The man, who is relocating to Victoria to be with his partner, was one of three bidders for the 2 Wattle Ave abode which had an $890,000 reserve price.
Mr Tong said five buyers registered for the auction but two did not get a chance to bid.
The buyer described the home as “right up his alley and something unique compared to what else is available”, Mr Tong added.
The man had only seen the property’s online listing before Saturday.
More than 115 groups inspected the home prior to the auction, won over by its pool, a separate studio and location close to shops, cafes and several schools.
The house dates back to the 1960s.
Current owners Malcolm and Gillian Bindon added the studio next to the pool.
The Bindons renovated the home’s wet areas including the kitchen.
Owners Malcolm and Gillian Bindon renovated the property after buying about 12 years ago.
Mr Bindon said at the time, he could see the mid-century residence’s potential although his wife did not like the 1960s-built home at first.
“You couldn’t see the house for the garden, I cut down nine trees because the house was just completely surrounded by large trees and an overgrown garden,” he said.
The renovation involved knocking down a freestanding interior wall and modernising the kitchen to let in more light, although the couple were keen to retain the house’s original style.
There’s two bathrooms in the house.
The home is close to Watton St’s restaurants, supermarkets and Bunnings, while Werribee Primary School, MacKillop College, Werribee Secondary College and College Road Kindergarten are all located within 2km.
“We updated all the wet areas as well, put in cupboards like glass mirror cupboards, so you got plenty of storage, redid the sunken bath and just updated with new tiles and all that,” Mr Bindon said.
He also installed the studio to use as a workshop, gym and home entertainment set-up where the couple’s two children, who have since grown up and moved out, enjoyed spending time with their friends.
Mr Bindon said he and his wife were planning to downsize and travel.
