The unused corner of Clarence St and Cambridge Rd is set for reinvention.

Hobart businesses JAWS Architects, developer and builder All Things Considered (ALTCo.) and project specialists South Property Group are set to launch a 13-home apartment complex on the site.

South Property Group managing director Nick Cowley said the DA for Apartments at The Quay was almost complete and its submission was imminent.

ALTCo. has cleared a half-built building from the corner site, ready for construction to commence.

“This development will breathe new life into a site that has been waiting a long time for its next chapter,” Mr Cowley said.

South Property Group and ALTCo. have posted teasers on social media for the design of the building, and the response has been huge with more than 18,000 views on each post.

“With just a couple of social media sneak peeks, the public response has been overwhelmingly positive,” Mr Cowley said.

“People have been curious and excited about what’s next for, as they said, ‘this for the ugly corner on Clarence St’.”

Prices will range from $650,000 to $2.3m, with one, two and three-bedroom homes.

Mr Cowley said the homes will appeal to a range of people, including first-home buyers, investors looking to capitalise on the new-build negative gearing laws, downsizers after a brilliant lifestyle location, and city workers tired of bridge traffic who want to jump on the ferry for a relaxing trip to the city.

“I think it’s very fair to say that not only Bellerive, but the whole of the Eastern Shore does not have any high-end apartments available. This project is well overdue,” he said.

In addition to the residential living, the ground floor contains 450sq m of commercial space that will also come to market via sale or rental.

ALTCo. director Wade Allan said they are looking for a tenant that compliments the high-profile location, enhances the building’s amenity and adds value to the community.
