The last and largest Aussie home of architecture visionary Walter Burley Griffin, the creator of our capital city, is for sale – at something of a discount.
Walter Burley Griffin’s last and largest Australian house, Coppins in Pymble, is having another tilt at finding a buyer with a fresh agent and a definite guide.
The visionary house on 5640sqm of land in Telegraph Rd was built in 1935 and is on local and State heritage registers. It came to market in 2023 without a formal guide but with suggestions it could set a record for the north shore – which was $25m at the time.
That north shore record is now double that, with the $50m sale of a house in Mosman this week.

Coppins now has a guide of $17m-$18.5m and the expressions of interest campaign is being handled by Ken Jacobs, of Forbes Global Properties.
Former chief executive of listed-fintech company Humm Group, and former Bank of Queensland chief Stuart Grimshaw and his wife, Annalise purchased the six-bedroom house in December 2020 for $13m and set about renovating inside and out.
However, during that renovation some of the heritage features of the acclaimed home were lost and court orders were put in place for them to be reinstated. Ken Jacobs said that remediation has now been completed.

Walter Burley Griffin, was the designer of Canberra beating 136 international designs to create the nation’s capital. Coppins was his last residential project before he left Australia. While the famous architect concentrated on the house his wife Marion Mahoney Griffin designed the gardens which have established plants, water features, a pond, and a swimming pool. There is also a two-bedroom guest cottage in the grounds. The sweeping gardens have been beautifully maintained and enhanced.

The elevated house has original stonework, grandly scaled living spaces, a marble kitchen and bathrooms and lavish bedrooms. There are manicured gardens, a pool and a two-bedroom guest cottage.
Jacobs said the northeast facing home retains all the excellence of its build while performing effortlessly for modern day family success.
