A vacant mausoleum in Randwick Cemetery has been listed for sale. The prominent sandstone vault, strikingly set amid the many graves on the 3.5ha South Coogee hillside, could potentially accommodate nine coffins, plus urns.

An unoccupied mausoleum at Randwick Cemetery has been listed for sale.
The combined vaults 37 and 38, that have 3m by 3m internal space, are located in the Congregational section on the 1870s cemetery, not far in from the main entrance opposite Arden Street. There are marble columns adjacent to its double doors, plus elaborate floor tiling.
Offering perpetual interment rights, offers close July 31 through Tim O’Mara and Glenn Elliott at the auction house, O’Maras.
“It’s a legacy for generations,” their marketing advises.

Inside the mausoleum.
“We have given the pricing considerable thought, however, it is difficult to pinpoint,” Elliott said.
“We firmly believe it will far exceed any previous realisations that we have experienced or know about.”
The last known unused mausoleum at Randwick was sold by the Maloof estate in 2018 for $300,000-plus to the Attard family. Over the past decade other sales have included a 10-person vault at Botany for $562,500 and a 16-occupant structure at Rookwood for $567,735.

It has been listed through Glenn Elliott and Tim O’Mara at the auction house O’Maras.

A vacant mausoleum in the eastern suburbs is very rare, with South Head Cemetery and Waverley Cemetery fully occupied,” Elliott said.
It is understood the vendors only knew of their longtime family ownership after being contacted by Randwick Council, who advised the copper roofing had been stolen.
