1024 Horseshoe Bend Rd, Torquay is on the market for $2.95m to $3.2m.

A manicured country garden cultivated over many years provides a tranquil backdrop to a Torquay lifestyle property that strikes a balance between convenience and open space.

Vendors Pip and Pete designed their four-bedroom family home to hero views of the surrounding landscape and then set to work bringing their outdoor vision to life.

Pip said she wanted a mini farm with paddocks at the front and rear for her beloved animals and then created private formal gardens as the centrepiece of the 7000sq m property.

New curtains to the main living room and bedrooms are in keeping with the home’s classic style.

There’s also a productive vegetable patch, an orchard and chicken coop, paving the way for a more self-sustainable way of life at 1024 Horseshoe Bend Rd, Torquay.

“We just put a lot of heart and soul into the place and we love our garden,” Pip said. “I love my animals and that open space around me but, for me, I always wanted to be in touch with the gardens and having every room having a window and an outlook into the garden is what I love.”

They looked to the country for inspiration for the classically styled farmhouse featuring a wraparound veranda accessed via French doors in every living space and bedroom.

The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area is the centrepiece, showcasing 3m high ceilings, hardwood timber floors and high-performance double-glazed, European uPVC windows to the north, east and south that flood the space with natural light throughout the day.

Established gardens create a private setting for outdoor entertaining.

The stone surround for the gas log fire is a focal point of the lounge.

All four bedrooms have French doors onto the veranda.

“It’s got a beautiful feel inside but it also serves us well. It’s great at Christmas – we’ve got the extension table – and it’s just a really good multipurpose space,” Pip said.

A gas log fire set into a feature stone chimney is a big drawcard in winter, however, when it comes to large gathering, nothing beats the garden as a venue.

“We have had lots of garden parties, my 50th, my daughter’s 21st and a garden tea party before her wedding. It’s a great place for that and under the fairy lights it just looks magical,” she said.

A saltwater spa can accommodate up to eight people, while younger visitors to the house often retreat the home’s second living room tucked away at the rear.

The main bedroom is a suite with a recently refitted walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, while a family bathroom and separate toilet services three further bedrooms with built-in wardrobes.

The gardens are the vendors’ pride and joy.

Subway tiles feature in the family bathroom.

The property is just a few minutes’ drive from Torquay beaches and services.

The property is less than five minutes’ drive to Whites Beach and even closer to schools and shops in Torquay North.

But being on the town’s northern fringe, with extended views over surrounding paddocks, it has an open country feel that the vendor’s love.

“It’s a versatile place, you don’t have to have animals, it could be for a tradesperson,” Pip said.

“One thing I love is that we’re opposite Tiger Moth World and on the weekends and sometimes during the week they jump our of the planes and you see them above us, these puffs of colour.”

McGrath, Torquay agent Sam Parsons is handling the sale of 1024 Horseshoe Bend Rd, Torquay. Price hopes are $2.95m to $3.2m.
